I’m starting a new series exploring different teachings of the Book of Mormon and comparing and/or contrasting them with the current teachings of the Mormon Church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints).
Surprisingly, there are very few of the distinctive Mormon beliefs and practices that come from the Book of Mormon. Also, there are passages which seem to actually contradict some of their teaching.
Over the years, I have heard many within the evangelical community blame ‘the Mormon Bible’ for the various divergent features of the LDS. Actually, most of those distinctives come from the other Mormon scriptures: the Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price.
The purpose of the series is to explore the book and see what it actually says.
